Prep for board exam

I used this text as a review for ACEP Board Recertifictaion Exam in 2010 and found it very well organized, informative, and outstanding for the test preparation. It provided an excellent curriculum review and served me well on the test. It is formatted perfectly for nuts and bolts review. I look forward to the future editions as they become available. A clear winner when compared to the Carol Rivers text and various review courses.

AAEM great, Fed-ex horrible.

Lauren from AAEM was amazing. Fed-ex (will never use again) some how either lost the first package or delivered it to a wrong address, then lied about it stating that my apartment complex "wouldn't take the package" only to then deliver it several days later without so much as an apology. All in all a very confusing story but Lauren not only sent another book out several days after the "refusal" but even contacted Fed-ex several times to see what the issue was. I finally got my book and its just what I needed. Thanks to everyone ant AAEM and Fed-ex, you lost a customer.

WONDERFUL READ

being 71 yrs of age...I wish that this could have been one of the first books I could have read when I was a young girl. I grew up thinking I was weird because I was the only one in my family that craved quiet. I hated being called a snob..shy..and stuck up, while in school and later in my 20's on... till reading this book and finally understanding, it was normal for me to be and feel the way I do.

What an enlightening book. It made me laugh and it made me think back to all those times that I was struggling to understand. Now I do. AND, it is so true, that you are NEVER too old to learn and discover new things that will explain your many questions and forever change your outlook. I am SO very happy that Laurie Helgoe, wrote this beautiful book. I am so happy to have it in my library, to be able to refer to it anytime I need it.

This book will never be one that anyone could ever find boring. It has set me free to just be who I am, a friendly, joyful and happy person who loves people, animals and TREES...and just need a bit more quiet time than others may.

Amazingly, it changed my life, too!

I took the MBTI and discovered that I'm an introvert. Only one problem: I was convinced that I was not an introvert, because introverts are shy. Right? And I'm not shy, therefore, I am not an introvert. Right? Not exactly. Since I had barely scored anything on the "extrovert" measurement, I decided to google and find something I could read to enlighten me about what it means to be introverted. Oh My Goodness!!!! After reading this book, all I wanted to do was climb to the top of the tallest mountain in my area and shout at the top of my lungs, "I AM AN INTROVERT!!!" Not only that, I'm proud to be one. Now I understand that introversion has nothing to do with being shy or timid or anything like that. It's about how you process information and where you get your energy. I feel like I've been validated, vindicated, enlightened, and set-free to be the best version of myself I can be. I am more able to set boundaries, more able to explain why I need to be alone, more able to find moments to re-energize myself in the middle of a hectic schedule and noise everywhere, and more able to be at peace with who I am. I cannot rate this book highly enough--especially for those of you who, like me, are seeking to better understand yourself, what makes you tick, what provides you with energy (and what is draining it), and how to use the strengths of your personality type to improve your life.

Fun book to read for both introverts and extroverts. Here's what I learned from it...

-The field of psychology labeled introversion a disorder until recently
-America is an extroverted society equalling more murders, but Japan is an introverted society equalling more suicides
-Depression commercials appeal to introverts because society tells us we should always be happy
-Pharmaceutical companies, especially those that make pills for depression have a hard time selling them in Japan, where
introversion and reflection are respected.
-Introverts prefer a neutral state of being than an excited state that extroverts prefer
-Introverts prefer dry humor and melancholic music and intimacy vs large crowds
-People aren't depressed, they are unexpressed. People overindulge when they underindulge their creativity.

Easy read. Teaches you how to navigate a social situations and gives a great history lesson on how introversion.

Interesting, but it doesn't go far enough

Bizarre, a little rocky to get into, and very strange. The writing style was difficult to adjust to and took about the first 100 pages, but after that, it was fine. I loved the ideas and the plot, but I don't feel like it was pushed far enough. It became a little boring and was very predictable, and through majority of the book, the pace moved too slowly in my opinion. A good read, and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't as memorable as I hoped it would be. Overall, it felt like "Lord of the Flies" meets "The Virgin Suicides" meets the film "The Village."

Bedtime read

I have discovered that each one of the parts of this book are a perfect read right before bed. The writing is good and easy to follow. The story line is intriguing and keeps me coming back for more details. Each part of the book is only about 30-50 pages so gives short snack sizes. The sex scenes are hot and original. I found I read all of the details instead of getting bored and skimming. It's nice to see an erotic author that tells a story that happens to have erotic scenes. Don't get me wrong this is not for the faint of heart, there are many very hot erotic scenes in this part and all the others leading up to this one.

OMG! How much more action can a reader take? Wow! This episode had me on the edge of my chair throughout the entire book. Emily Cantore, you are wicked. If the author didn't have your attention before part 4, she sure does now. Can't wait to read the next book in this tantalizing series. Still has lots of hot, erotic sex, but now we've added some suspense to go with that. What's next? I guess it's time to continue reading to find out.

Some Gems, Some Forgotten, All Worthy

In fact, this collection shows some of the best development of ragtime towards the end of the era outside of the classic rags of Joplin, Scott, Lamb and Matthews. It also demonstrates to some extent the output from Tin Pan Alley, as well as a few dance tunes. There are challenges (Rufenreddy and Pork and Beans), great experiments (My Pet), parodies (Operatic Rag, Hungarian Rag and Russian Rag), and just plain good music (Midnight Trot, Hot-House Rag, etc.). Not all of these will challenge the average pianist, and some are actually easy to work out. Plus 42 pieces at this price? Some of them would take many years and many dollars to obtain now. Get the book instead. Thank me later! You can hear many of these pieces on my site as well.

The best ragtime book I own.

I am a 14 year old pianist from Australia.

This is, hands down, one of the best ragtime compilations in existence. It is really the only Dover book which explores the later ragtime well enough. Also, unlike half of the ragtime books on the market, it doesn't bore you with half of the book being Joplin rag after Joplin rag.

This book is one of the few to actually explore 'novelty ragtime', which is ragtime, but trickier and more original.

My favouite pieces in this collection are 'My Pet', (by Zez Confrey, an under-appreciated genius)and 'Rufenreddy', (by Roy Bargy, a pioneer in novelty ragtime). Unoriginal, boring rags are not found in this collection, except for a couple.

There is really something for everyone in this collection. Some of the rags are quite easy to pick up (Blame it on the Blues, Haunting Rag), some are moderate challenges (My Pet, Hungarian Rag, Russian Rag), and some provide quite a challenge (Pork & Beans, Rufenreddy).

There is something to stun any audience and to delight any pianist. This makes for a beautifully well compiled, well rounded collection.

If you can, buy it - it's worth every cent.

A great collection of Ragtime

This is a must-have for the moderately advanced Ragtime piano player. David Jasen has included a variety of styles of Ragtime from that time period, ie. One- and Two-Step, Fox Trot, etc., so you're sure to find music to suit your tastes. The selections are a delight to play and impressive when heard, especially "Rufenreddy" which is my favorite. Forty one of these selections are new to my collection of over 400 Ragtime pieces in nine books. The only duplication is "Pork and Beans" by Luckey Roberts.
